چکیده

In this paper we present an overview of several Web surveys. The aim of this research is to study Web survey design characteristics that may influence participation in Web surveys (Lozar Manfreda, 2001; Vehovar et al., 2002). Except for a few studies (whose results we present below), the previous research has mainly studied the effect of a single factor, or a group of related factors on the response rate, while attempting to hold all other potential factors constant. However, there may be interaction among the factors. In addition, authors rarely define which stage of the Web survey process (Lozar Manfreda, 2001; Vehovar et al., 2002) they refer to. However, different factors may have an impact at different stages.

Use of Internet Tools for Survey Research

Over the past two decades, organizational researchers have used and assessed the effectiveness of various Internet tools for conducting surveys. The various Internet tools used included email, the Web, and a combination of email and the Web. As with any evolving data collection tool, the use of various Internet tools must be carefully examined. This paper presents an overview of major issues th...

Sequential preference questions factors influencing completion rates and response times using an online panel

How many choice sets respondents will answer is a critical issue in how much data a researcher has for analysis. We used 66 separate surveys that ask respondents, from an opt-in web panel, sequences of preference questions about consumer products to study design factors that influence the rate of completing the entire sequence of questions comprising a discrete choice experiment. We do this by ...

Research Paper: Methods for the Design and Administration of Web-based Surveys

This paper describes the design, development, and administration of a Web-based survey to determine the use of the Internet in clinical practice by 450 dental professionals. The survey blended principles of a controlled mail survey with data collection through a Web-based database application. The survey was implemented as a series of simple HTML pages and tested with a wide variety of operatin...

Will Web Surveys Ever Become Part of Mainstream Research?

This journal issue contains two interesting papers on web survey methodology that reach different conclusions about the potential use of web surveys, in particular which of two modes achieves the higher response rate. High response rates are commonly seen as an indicator for the validity of surveys. Leece et al. [1] used systematic sampling to assign half of a list of orthopedic surgeons to a w...

Improving response rates in web surveys with default setting The effects of default on web survey participation and permission

Researchers are increasingly using internet instruments such as email and online surveys as data-collection methods. However, web survey response rates are fairly low, which threatens the efficiency of weh surveys. To use weh surveys to gather data effectively, it is thus critical to improve the response rate of participants without compromising the low-cost advantage of this approach. The goal...
